How to Use an Ice Cream Maker

The steps you’ll see below are for the common ice cream maker machines. The procedure may still differ depending on the machine’s design and function.

  1. Before you begin making your very first homemade ice cream, have the freezer bowl frozen for at least 24 hours. It should be chilled as the freezer bowl is designed with a special gel which will only function if kept frozen.
  2. After 24 hours of keeping the bowl frozen, place it on the base or the motor. Then, place the paddle inside the freezer bowl. Then place the cover in its place.
  3. Turn the machine on. Slowly pour the mixture. It is important thing to remember to make sure that the mixture should always be very cold before you pour it in the bowl.
  4. As the mixture spins, it begins to freeze against the inside of the canister. The paddle scrapes the ice crystals and turn them back into the center. As a result, the mixture becomes thicker and frozen.
  5. Let the mixture spin for about 20 minutes. You’ll know you’re done when you notice the consistency of a soft serve ice cream.
  6. Turn the machine off. Take the paddle out.
  7. You can add your favorite toppings like nuts, raisins, chocolates or cookies. Cover the bowl with a clear plastic. You can also transfer it to another air-tight container if you opt to. Place the bowl back into the fridge until it is completely firm.
  8. Enjoy!
