There are many places to visit in Phnom Penh but in this time i would like to take the opportunity to show you the most beautiful and popular places in Phnom Penh. They are Royal Palace, National Museum of Cambodia, Wat Phnom, Riverside, and Night Market.
Royal Palace is one of the most interesting places for both citizen and foreigners who want to know more about the history of the Royal Palace. Moreover, the Palace has always been a popular tourist attraction in Phnom Penh. Visitors are able to wander around the Silver Pagoda compound and the central compound containing the ThroneHall and Chan Chhaya Pavilion. The king’s living area, which actually takes up half of the total palace, Villa Kantha Bopha, Srey Mongkol Pavilion, Royal gardens, and a number of other building and Pavilions, is closed to the public. As I used to visit there, it was a great memory for me that all the visitors can write down about their feeling when they come to visit The Royal Palace in the note book that they have already provided for the visitors.
If you look at another place which nears the Royal Palace, you will see the National Museum of Cambodia which is located on the street 13 in central Phnom Penh. The visitor’s entrance to the compound and the admissions ticket booth are at the corner of street 13 and 178. The visitors can visit museum that collects all the Khmer art, including sculptural, ceramics, bronzes, and ethnographic objects. Besides, they can gain more knowledge and understand the culture of Cambodia from the guide and some information that provided there.
Furthermore, the museum also serves a religious functions; its collections of important Buddhist and Hindusculpture. Museum is divided into several categories, including prehistoric items, stone, bronze and wood sculpture, ceramics and ethnographic objects from the prehistoric, and pre-Angkor. The visitors can capture the nice view around the museum but they can’t capture inside the museum. As we are Cambodian citizen, proudly to show the world that we have a great culture and we still continue protecting it as the priceless things.
After visiting the Royal Palace and National Museum of Cambodia, Wat Phnom is also the good place to visit in Phnom Penh. Wat Phnom “Hill Temple” is located in the northern part of Phnom Penh, near the Tonle Sap River. When you go there, you will see the small shrine dedicated to Daun Chi Penh in a neighboring pavilion and the original mural painting on the ceiling of the main workshop area.
Besides, you will see the large stupa containing the ashes of King Ponhea Yat and behind the temple is a stupa torn apart by the root of a large tree. The most amazing thing is that you will see “Sam Bo” the legendary elephant who has been offering rides for more than 50 years. Then, you will enjoy seeing the paintings depicting stories of Buddha before enlightenment in small house over there. By the way, there are many monkeys roam Wat Phnom that always scare and bite the people so if you hold something to eat, please be careful with that.
Riverside is a place where everyone likes to visit in order to relax from their work or busy time. Along the riverside you will find the oldest sectors of the city and the footprints of different generation.
The view of the river is wonderful with the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers to form the Bassac just in front to the Royal Palace. In my opinion, the most relaxing thing to do is riding a boat along the riverside. You don’t have to spend so much money for that because you have to pay only 1$ per person. While you are riding the boat along the riverside, you will get the fresh air and you also can see the nice view at night time of the Phnom Penh city.
By seeing the romantic and interesting riverside, i would like to introduce you one more place to visit is Night Market that opens only Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. It is easy for people who don’t have much time to visit the Night Market in Siem Reap province to visit this Phnom Penh Night Market instead.
When you visit the Night Market, you will experience the new environment such as going around the market, and seeing something new. One more thing is that they also provide the concert with the Khmer classical music for us. As my experience, drawing area is the most attractive place that i like the most. You can let them draw your picture immediately and I am sure that you will surprise with their great talents. Also, you can enjoy shopping with the good price of the products that they sell, too.
