If you are are a hobby or commercial RC drone enthusiast, you surely know the benefit of taking off and landing from a proper drone landing pad. Doing so not only ensures you take off smoothly, but it can greatly reduce the potential damage from a hard landing.
Have you ever had to land in mud and gotten the mud all over your drone? The mud and moisture can damage your sensitive electronics, so don’t ruin your precious purchase. Our favorite which we have tested ourselves recently is this really cool looking big 2ft by 2ft landing pad, that has a highly visible target to aim for. It is made of durable, waterproof polyvinyl and has four grommets at the corners and comes along with 4 stakes so you can secure it in case of wind. Just roll it up and go. While it does NOT have foam cushion layer underneath (which is not really necessary), it is good for most drone hobbyists. Also it is thin and lightweight so easy to transport. Made in USA which is a plus in our mind!

The best thing is we think it is the coolest looking one that we’ve ever seen, and has a realistic “asphalt” background like an aircraft carrier deck so it give the military style look. It’s a great choice for a drone hobbyist. It is also a good gift for your friend or loved one who is into drones.
Key Features Buying Guide
There are many different designs to consider, offering different features such as:
- SIZE – pick the right size, anywhere from 12 inches to several feet across. Bigger is generally better.
- EASE OF USE – Consider if it is easy to use, to roll it out, to pack it up, and carry it with you. Do you want to throw it in your backpack, or will you be carrying a huge bulky thing?
- WATER and DIRT PROTECTION – At a minimum, you want something that is waterproof, so you can land on a muddy ground or wet grass.
- CUSHION – Some pads provide a foam layer of cushion to better protect against impact. Since they are thicker from the foam, they are also more bulky to carry.
- REVERSIBLE – being able to reverse and use either side is a plus, if there are different designs or if one side gets damaged or dirty.
- DESIGN – there are many imprint designs to choose, so you can have the look you want. Military, space-age, etc.
