10. Fernando Valenzuela
Cy Young Award winner Fernando Valenzuela was named Rookie of the Year during the early years of his sports career. He went on to become a Major League player with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He earned the title of Rookie of the Year for playing 36 scoreless innings for the team. Valenzuela was born in the village of Etchohuaquila, located in Navojoa, Sonora.

9. Alfonso Cuaron
Director Alfonso Cuaron became well known as a Mexican celebrity for directing a movie called “Children of Men.” Though he was expelled from the film school he attended he went on to write a Mexican film. His career brought him to the United States when Sydney Pollack asked him to travel to Hollywood for a feature film shoot. Though that shoot was cancelled after Cuaron arrived in Hollywood he went on to direct movies like “Great Expectations,” “Addicted to Love,” and “A Little Princess.” Cuaron was born in Mexico City.
8. Eduardo Verastegui
Calvin Klein model Eduardo Verastegui also starred and sang in several Mexican telanovelas before relocating in 2001 to Miami. He then recorded an album and made an appearance in a music video for Jennifer Lopez. Verastegui then went on to start a production company and make movies. In 2007 the Toronto Film Festival gave his first movie a People’s Choice Award. Verastegui was born in Mante, Tamaulipas.

7. Thalia
Mexican celebrity singer Thalia began her career when she was nine years old. After a three year stint with a Mexican band she went on to release a 1990 solo album; her first one. In 2003 Thalia recorded her first album in English. Its breakout single, “I Want You,” was among the top 10 songs in the United States when it was released. The same year, Thalia began selling a line of eye wear and clothing in Kmart stores. Born in Mexico City, she now divides her time among homes in Aspen, New York and Miami, as well as Mexico.

6. Ximena Navarrete
Miss Universe 2010, Jimena Navarrete, is only the second Mexican woman to win the pageant. She made many appearances in her role as Miss Universe, including appearances at the world famous U.S. Open. Navarrete was born in Guadalajara.

5. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has the distinction of becoming the first Mexican to be nominated for a Best Director Oscar. Fans of the Cannes Film Festival will recognize Alejandro as the director of “Amores Perros.” In 2010 the Cannes Film Festival was the site of the “Biutiful” Premiere which Alejandro made along with Mexican celebrity Javier Bardem, Selma Hyack’s husband. In 2016, he won an Oscar for The Revenant with Leonardo Dicaprio. Alejandro was born in Mexico City.
4. Diego Luna
Diego Luna may be best known for his starring role in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights but he got his start as a child actor starring in telenovelas. After starring in his first big movie, “Y tu Mama Tambien,” in 2001, he went on to appear in movies alongside Tom Hanks and Bon Jovi. Luna was born in Mexico City.
3. Carlos Santana
Carlos Santana is perhaps one of the most well-known Mexican celebrities. He has released several best -selling albums in the U.S. and even produced a musical retrospective to be played at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Santana was born in Autlan, Jalisco.
2. Salma Hayek
Another well-known Mexican celebrity is Salma Hayek. Her first hit in the U.S. was 1995’s “Desperado” in which she starred alongside Antonio Banderas. Seven years later she was nominated for an Academy Award for “Frida.” She was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.
1. Louis C.K.
Louis C.K. is a well -known comedian in the United States. Though he now resides in the U.S. he was born and lived in Mexico until he was the age of seven and is still considered a Mexican citizen.
